Egypt - I first visited Egypt ten years ago as a tourist. I marveled at the pyramids, the sphinx, and numerous places of antiquity - truly the Cradle of Civilization. All that is still there - and worth a visit! But things have changed! Cairo is the headquarters city for numerous multi-national corporations serving all of the northern part of Africa.
I was there on business with a large multinational company. Their headquarters are located in what is called “New Cairo”, and that it is! In every direction you see large multi-storied buildings, shopping centers, and new houses and parks. Hotels and restaurants are of the highest quality. The city’s population is around 21 million, and there is no modern transportation system - only cars and buses. So, the traffic is considerable!
On my first trip I learned how to cross busy streets. The secret…find an elderly woman who was walking unafraid across 4 or 5 lanes of traffic - without stopping! And amazingly, the cars would allow her to cross! The secret…follow closely behind her. That system still works!!
My assignment was two-fold: individual coaching for selected persons who are fast-tracked for more senior positions…and seminars for the Leadership team on making presentations in English when English is not their first language.
